The workshop participants enjoyed sunny weather and beautiful autumn landscapes while staying at the Chateau de Rousson in St. Remy and a spacious villa in Goult.  As a seasoned teacher, St. George has held numerous workshops in the New England area. He has also traveled extensively and was quite familiar with the locations prior to organizing the Provence Workshop. The easy pace of the schedule allowed the participants time to absorb the beauty of the surroundings as well as relax or sightsee as they pleased. windmill.jpg (7159 bytes)

“The most satisfying and surprising aspect of this workshop was the myriad of views available to the students. Just the difference of a few feet would unveil a new landscape. In many cases, moving up a hill or around the bend in a road would open up a whole new world of possibilities for painting.” St. George reports, “The day trips to various areas around St. Remy, Les Baux, Roussillon, Egalyieres, Le Bonnieux and Goult proved really successful.”

The morning session, lit by the legendary Provence sunlight, allowed the creativity and inspiration to flow. Afternoon critiques allowed the students to hone their skills for the following days. It wasn’t all work and no play for the participants as evenings were filled with good food, excellent wine and conversations of the days events. Side trips to local markets, museums and vineyards assured the students of a well-rounded painting holiday.

The relaxed structure of the workshop allowed St. George free-time to paint as well. He has produced  energetic and colorful renditions of the Provence countryside and quaint villages. A special mid-winter showing is in preparation to showcase the works of William St. George in Provence. Check back to this web site for more details.
